Advanced Clinical Practitioners

You can see an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) for many minor illnesses and injuries. These are nurses, pharmacists or other healthcare professionals that have undertaken extensive postgraduate training to examine, diagnose and treat a wide range of illnesses, and have the ability to order tests/X-rays, prescribe medication and refer onwards where needed. The ACPs work across both practices at Rushbottom Lane Surgery

Practice Nurses

As part of the practice team, our practice nurses help with all aspects of practice work including annual check ups for long term conditions (such as asthma and diabetes), removal of stitches, smear tests, vaccinations, injections and wound dressing / dressing changes. Nurses are also available to offer advice on general health matters. The nurses cover both Practices at Rushbottom Lane Surgery.

Pharmacists

The pharmacists are able to review your medication with you to ensure you are taking the right medicines at the right doses for the right conditions. They will identify where things may not be quite right, for example, if there are any clashes between medicines or experiencing side effects, then be able to change your treatment as needed. Medication review appointments can be booked in advance.

Associate Practitioners are Healthcare Assistants who have undertaken additional training to provide a wider range of routine check ups and health promotion

Healthcare Assistants

Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one. They work across both practices at Rushbottom Lane Surgery.

Reception

Receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches and practice audits.

Prescription Clerks

The prescription clerks are responsible for processing your medication requests. Every day, across both practices they receive hundreds of prescription orders. They may contact you about your request, in the interests of ensuring the safe, accurate provision of medication. The prescription clerks can be contacted on the surgery telephone numbers between 11am and 2pm Monday to Friday. Note that prescription requests cannot be taken by telephone.

Administration

The two practices employ and share a diverse range of administrative staff responsible for the smooth running of day to day activities. This includes medical secretaries to arrange referrals, data summarisers to ensure your medical records are updated properly, reporting specialists to search for and invite you to appropriate long term condition reviews, technical support for you and surgery staff (e.g. online services) and many more important roles behind the scenes.

Home Visiting Team

The home visiting team is provided by Benfleet Primary Care Network (PCN). The PCN is a collaboration between the seven GP practices in Benfleet. The home visiting team is led by the PCN Matron and includes Emergency Care Practitioners (Paramedics) and Healthcare Assistants.

First Contact Physiotherapists

The First Contact Physiotherapists can see you for an extensive list of musculoskeletal problems, including joint pains, muscle pains, suspected arthritis and injuries such as sprains and strains. The FCPs are highly experienced physiotherapists with additional training to assess and diagnose a wide range of presentations. Where necessary, they can also request x-rays and arrange onward referral to hospital if required.
